Represent your region

Guide our agenda

Ensuring our actions and decisions are driven by our membership is our highest guiding principle as an organisation.

We reach the position we take on the issues which matter most to Queensland councils and their communities by:

  • holding an Annual Conference where representatives of each council submit, debate and vote on a broad range of issues.
  • a continual cycle of engagement with councils which includes face-to-face meetings across a variety of levels within your Council, online requests for feedback and surveys, and;
  • formal endorsement of our actions and decisions by a Policy Executive which consists of 15 mayors and councillors who represent each region in the state, plus the LGAQ President who is elected at the Annual Conference every 4 years.

Man and ladyRepresent your region

Each local government term, members elect a new Policy Executive.

The LGAQ Policy Executive meet six times a year and are elected for the duration of the four-year local government term.

Policy Executive Members are expected to lead consultation with their region’s councils on policy matters and other key issues impacting local government.

They are responsible for representing their region’s views as part of Policy Executive decision-making.

Members receive a daily meeting allowance and have travel costs reimbursed to attend Policy Executive meetings.
